Kosmik Debris
Appeared at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2008
KOSMIK Debris will play at the IOW Festival, on the same bill as the Sex Pistols, after winning the 2008 Battle of the Bands.
The Medina High School quartet, all from Year 11, won the school-run competition at Medina Theatre last Monday night.
Their prize is a slot on the festival's main stage on the Saturday afternoon.
Judges, including Medina High music teacher Chris Phillips and Danny Knox, drummer with past competition winners Skyline Heroes, saw eight acts thrash it out for festival glory but chose Kosmik Debris as the overall best.
The band comprises Sam Lawson, 15, on bass guitar and backing vocals, Rob Berry, 16, on drums and backing vocals, Shaun Barker, 16, on rhythm guitar and vocals, and lead guitarist James Thorpe, 15.
They all live in Ventnor and have played together for four years, ever since they were at Ventnor Middle School.
Sam said: "We practice twice a week at Ventnor Youth Club and we are influenced by where we live, and our friends and families.
"We all like different kinds of music, a huge range, but we play alternative rock and try to fuse all the genres together, so that is not easy.
"We are really excited to play at the festival and on the same day as The Sex Pistols and The Zutons, it is pretty cool.
"I have never even been to the festival before so at my first IOW Festival I will be on the stage."
